NMC Orders Medical Colleges to Ensure Student Attendance During NEET UG Re-Exam Period

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued another advisory to medical colleges, warning them not to grant any leave applications from students on June 20 and 21, as RE-NEET UG 2026 approaches. According to an advisory by Commission in its notice dated June 18, same was issued after a request received from Department of Higher Education. This is expected to prevent any activity that might hamper proper conduct of examination. Moreover, Commission has advocated that medical institutions be cautious and sensitize students to importance of maintaining sanctity of NEET UG 2026 exam. The institutions have been instructed to prevent any acts that might compromise sanctity of exam and to cooperate in making environment safe for retest.

Why has NMC Issued Special Instructions to Medical Colleges?

NMC pointed out in notice that previous exams have seen situations where some medical students have indulged in certain activities that can potentially affect impartiality of the examination process. Therefore, to avoid such situations in future, Commission has adopted precautionary measures before re-examination for NEET UG 2026. This is in view of letter sent by Department of Higher Education, under Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on June 13. In letter, it was asked that guidelines be issued to medical colleges ensuring that students do not indulge in any activity that may affect examination process. The department had asked for assistance of Health Ministry as well as other medical colleges all over country for ensuring that re-test is conducted transparently and impartially. Notably, a similar warning had been provided before original NEET UG 2026 exam conducted on May 3. In this regard, medical colleges had been asked to keep track of students' activities and not to grant them any leave during examination period. NEET UG 2026 re-exam will be conducted by NTA on June 21.
