NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Updates: Supreme Court Refuses CBT Mode Request
On Monday, the Supreme Court did not agree to interfere in administration of NEET UG 2026 re-test and did not direct NTA to conduct test in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode rather than pen and paper format. NEET UG re-test will be held on 21st June. The bench headed by Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice Aravind Kumar declined immediate relief, putting off matter for July, thus making any possibility of altering examination mode remote for coming re-test. Application before bench came as a result of a writ petition filed by RJD MP Sudhakar Singh, which involved several directions sought to be granted relating to NEET examinations. At the hearing of matter, it became apparent to bench that applicant had only made a plea for re-exam to be conducted through CBT test method. On his part, Justice Narasimha observed that similar applications had been entertained in earlier matters and therefore, there was no justification for entertaining it at moment.
NEET UG 2026 exam, which was held on May 3, has been cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak, reported on May 12. In response to incident, an inquiry into allegations has been taken up by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It has also been reported that matter is currently being discussed with a parliamentary committee about CBI probe into leakage of question papers. During the discussion, representatives from NTA made assurances of having undertaken appropriate security measures for fair conduct of re-exam. While sources reveal that despite having been called to join discussion, members of United Doctors Front (UDF) were reportedly denied a chance to make any representations before committee, which is chaired by Digvijaya Singh. Nonetheless, it may be noted that its memorandum was submitted to committee.
