The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has finally announced the provisional NEET MDS and NEET PG 2026 examination timetable, which has provided a lot of relief to thousands of medical and dental applicants in India. As per the notification, NEET MDS 2026 will be held on 2 May 2026, and NEET PG 2026 will be held on 30 August 2026. Both exams will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) format in specific centres around the country.

NBEMS NEET PG & MDS 2026 Exam Pattern Insights

In the case of dental aspirants, NEET MDS 2026 will be a four-option multiple-choice question (MCQ) test with 240 questions. The test will take three hours and a negative mark of 25 per cent will be given for wrong answers, but no mark will be deducted for questions not attempted. In the meantime, NEET PG 2026 will have the same CBT format, and candidates will be tested in various subjects that are relevant to postgraduate medical education.

Why This is Important for Aspirants

The announcement gives students sufficient time to prepare and they can schedule revision time, manage internships and synchronise their study plans with the exam schedule. This transparency is essential to many, considering the competitive aspect of postgraduate medical admissions in India.

The NBEMS notification is also provided in the context of recent controversies regarding admission policies. The rejection of a PIL by the Delhi High Court against the reduced NEET PG 2025 cut-off set by the government on the issue of eligibility criteria and the 2026 schedule became even more important to the aspirants who wanted transparency.
